Why do you do campus ministry?

Because ministry with young adults is so much fun!  I love journeying with students in their faith throughout their college years.  The questions, excitement, doubts, and moments of epiphany are truly sacred moments that enable me to see God in the world every day!

Well....we don't get into many "hairy" situations!  


What is your favorite part of working at Wesley?

I love and cherish the relationships I have been able to make with the students and the joy they bring to my life, each one in so many different ways.


Cristen Mitchell


She is called to teach music for the Christian Church. She grew up at Draper Valley Baptist Church where her grandfather is still the pastor. There she learned many of the traditional hymns of the faith.


As she grew older she participated in bands and choirs. She has earned a Bachelors of Music in Music Education from Radford University, a Church Music Certificate from Virginia Wesleyan College, and a Masters of Music in Choral Conducting from James Madison University.


Cristen has a decade of experience working in church music. She is the Director of Music Ministries at Blacksburg United Methodist Church in Blacksburg, VA. There she oversees the music ministry of the entire congregation and directs the Chancel Choir, Early Service Ensemble, Angel Choir, and Wesley Singers (part of the Wesley Foundation at Virginia Tech).
